| Palazzo
dei Capitani : This building was constructed in the 16th century, and is situated on
the Piazza del Municipio. On the façade, numerous medieval coats-of-arms can still be
made out. On the wall there is a plaque commemorating the 19th of October 1506 - the day
when Pope Julius II passed through the village, accompanied by Niccol
Machiavelli. Inside, there is the local Museo della Civilt Contadina ed
Artigiana, which celebrates local culture and craftsmanship. There is a wide range of
exhibits on show - from agricultural tools to furniture, photographs and sacred images. Parrocchiale di S. Stefano : The exterior of this often-restored parish
church features a porch with three arches. Inside, there are a number of paintings: an Angel
freeing St. Peter from prison (oil on canvas, dating from 1808); a Virgin with
Angels and Saints (oil on canvas, 18th century), and a 17th-century Visitation (oil
on canvas).
Santuario di S. Maria della Neve di Quadalto : This
sanctuary has been restored several times, but retains its portico with three arches
supported by pillars. The interior has three naves, and above the main altar there is a
statue of the Virgin Mary that is said to have miraculous properties. There is also a
17th-century organ and several paintings.
Badia di Susinana : First constructed in
the 12th century, and often partially rebuilt since then, the abbey is today used as a
farmhouse. The interior has altars in stone and several paintings: S. Giovanni
Gualberto worshipping the Crucifix (dating from the 17th or 18th centuries); an Assumption
of the Virgin with Saints (1626); a Virgin with Child and Saints (1626); a
17th-century Crucifix.
Chiesa dei SS. Egidio e Martino a Salecchio : This church has been restored
many times, but still features two bells and a cross, as well as engravings of the
14th-century Evangelists. |
