  • Places of Interest
Palazzo dei Vicari : Although refurbished several times since it was first built in 1306, the imposing original shell is still visible. It features a crenellated tower, rising up 42 metres and dedicated to Arnolfo di Cambio, which gives the building a sleeker, less serious appearance. Hundreds of coats-of-arms of successive generations of the Vicari family are to be found on the façade and in the atrium, some of them quite magnificent. On the ground floor, there is a number of paintings attributed to the 14th-century Florentine school. The first floor features an altar piece depicting the Virgin with Child and Saints, in a room that would almost certainly have been the private chapel of the Vicari family. Other rooms are adorned with yet more coats-of-arms, alongside numerous other religious paintings from the store-rooms of Florence. The recently-inaugurated Ironworkers Museum, is to be found inside the Palazzo dei Vicari. It contains a wealth of example of blades of every type and information on the methods used to create them, as well as an immense collection of documentary photographs on the art of iron. autodromo autodrome mugello campionato championship mugello auto moto
Oratorio della Madonna della Piazza
: This oratory was constructed in the 8th century, and within its little late-gothic temple it contains a stunning 14th- century depiction of the Virgin Enthroned with Child and Saints. According to tradition, this building was the place where people would swear their loyalty to the mayor of the vicariate.

Propositura dei SS. Jacopo e Filippo
: Built in 1325 by the Augustinian order, this building retains its original cloister and its arched portico supported by its decidedly Ionic columns. To the right rises the impressive bell tower, which features the Latin inscription Sicut Incentium above the doorway. The church itself has a single nave, and houses many exceptional works of art. Of particular interest is the full-relief sculpture in white marble depicting the Virgin with Child that is to be found in the small eastern chapel - it dates from the 15th century and is attributed to Benedetto da Maiano.

Pieve di S. Maria a Fagna
: This Romanesque church was probably constructed in the 10th century. In 1770, a full-scale refurbishment changed the entire building forever, with the exception of the apse, which remains it all its original glory. The church has three naves, with the central one raised above the others. The 13th-century pulpit is positioned in line with the fifth column on the right-hand side, and is made from green serpentino on white marble slabs.

Pieve di Sant’ Agata
: Evidence indicates that this, one of the most beautiful parish churches in the Mugello area, dates from AD 974. Although the columns extend right up to the ceiling, without any arches, giving the impression that the church has only one nave, in fact, it has three. It features some excellent paintings, frescoes, and a stunning baptismal font.

Villa Il Palagio
: This 17th-century country house, which belonged to the Borghese family, was probably built on the site of an older structure. The villa has a wonderful, expansive garden dotted with valuable statues and unusual trees, including a Californian fir. In its day, the villa played host to most of the royalty of Europe. It is new a top-quality hotel and restaurant.
